Vietnam Veteran and Actor R. Lee Ermey Laid To Rest at Arlington

Today, Gunnery Sgt. R. Lee Ermey was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.

At the age of 74, Ermey died at a hospital in Santa Monica, California from complications related to pneumonia on April 15, 2018.

A Marine Corps drill instructor and Vietnam veteran, Ermey’s most memorable role was playing Gunnery Sgt. Hartman in Stanley Kubrick’s Vietnam War film "Full Metal Jacket," for which he earned a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.  Ermey acted in many other movies and was an accomplished voice actor and television host.

In his later years, Ermey continued to visit Marine Corps recruits at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego and Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island in Beaufort, South Carolina.
