High 5,000 Hometown Hero: Mike Docarmo In Studio!

June 4, 2018

John and Tammy are on a mission to high 5 5,000 Hometown Heroes. Meet Mike!

Mike Docarmo served in the Marine Corps as a 0331 machine gunner. During a training exercise he was injured. He had spinal surgery and when he woke up, he had lost feeling in his left leg below his knee. The doctors said that they didn’t know if he would ever have feeling in that part of his leg again. To this day, he still does not have feeling in his leg. He was then sent to the Wounded Warrior regime so that he could get the care he needed. While he was there he was giving the opportunity to participate in the Wounded Warrior games in Chicago last year. He won 13 medals, 5 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze. He participated in swimming, volleyball, basketball, track and field, and basketball. He then went on to win 7 medals at the Invictus Games in Canada. As he is training for the Invictus Games in Australia, his ultimate goal is to be asked to join the Paralympics team in Tokyo.

The Invictus Games is an international adaptive multi-sport event, created by His Royal Highness Prince Harry, in which wounded, injured or sick armed services personnel and their associated veterans take part in sports including wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, indoor rowing, track/field, swimming, archery, air rifle, golf, cycling, powerlifting and many more. The games will be in Australia in October. He will be participating in swimming, cycling, rowing, volleyball, rugby, track, field, basketball;;, archery, and golf.

Mike is a trainer, server and bartender at Texas Roadhouse in Oceanside. He was also named the Male Athlete of the year for the marine Corps.
