Disney's Splash Mountain Is Being Turned Into a "Princess and the Frog" Ride

June 26, 2020

Disney's Splash Mountain so it's no longer based on "Song of the South".   It was announced yesterday that Splash Mountain is being turned into a "Princess and the Frog" ride. The company says the new ride, quote, "speaks to the diversity of the millions of people who visit our parks each year."

"Song of the South" came out in 1946, and it's racially troubling enough that Disney has never released it on home video in the U.S., and it's not available on Disney+

The change has been in the works since last year, and Disney shared some concept art yesterday.

We’re thrilled to share a new project @WaltDisneyImagineering has in development, Splash Mountain – at both @Disneyland & #WaltDisneyWorld – will soon be completely reimagined with a new story inspired by an all-time favorite @DisneyAnimation film, “The Princess and The Frog.” Read more on the @DisneyParksBlog.
