According to Nicole McNeil, supervising recreation specialist for San Diego's  Aquatics Program “Drowning is one of the leading causes of death in children ages one to 14 and is the leading cause of accidental injury death for children ages one to four years old."  And now San Diego's Portable Pool program is officially opened at City Heights Recreation Center. And with it come free, week-long water safety skills classes for kids ages of 3 and 15."The City is offering these important free classes to help young children learn basic swimming skills to keep them safe around pools and prevent unnecessary drowning tragedies.”

San Diego's Portable Pool program was created in 1968 in an effort to bring water skills to the thousands of kids who don't live close to San Diego's 13 municipal pools.

There will also be a portable pool installed Monday, July1st at the Robert Egger Sr./South Bay Recreation Center . Free classes at the portable pools remain in their locations for three weeks before being moved to other locations around the city. Watch for new locations coming to Paradise Hills, Linda Vista and Ocean Beach recreation centers. on top of that kids can take advantage of a 30-minute playtime swim session at select locations, on weekdays, at no charge.

To enroll your kids fill out an ActiveNet submittal form and return it to the recreation center where the portable pool is installed. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
